The Nostalgic Race Car Club put on an exhibition parade, trophy dash, and main event race at Lakeport Speedway, Saturday, Aug. 5. The field featured both historical and historic-replica race cars.
Among these was a replica of the No.10 1935 Ford three-window coupe Bill France Sr. raced to finish fifth in the first stock car race on Daytona Beach in 1936. France later went on to found NASCAR, and build Daytona International Raceway and the sister track Talladega. It is said that the roots of NASCAR and stock car racing can be traced directly back to this car.
The No.10 has been on display in the Daytona International Speedway for the last three years as part of the “Heritage of Daytona” display. The car ran in the Coast-To-Coast Great Race of 2004 from Jacksonville, Fla. to Monterey and the 2005 race from Washington, D.C. to Seattle/Tacoma, Wash.
It was delivered to California by Roush Racing this year and has been on tour to all the West Coast race tracks. The car was driven at the Lakeport Speedway by Bill Baxter.
Other Nostalgic Race Car Group drivers were Danny Feifer, Mike McCann, Mike Ryan, Don Johnson, and Paul Thomas.
