LAKEPORT — The North State Challenge Series Late Model tour cars will be the headliner on Saturday during the 75-lap Robinson Rancheria Resort and Casino North State Challenge at the Lakeport Speedway, where the winner will pocket $1,500.
The top two drivers in the NSCS points standings hail from Lake County, with Mike Doss of Nice out in front of Derek Thorn of Lakeport by a two-point margin. Crescent City”s Howard Ford is running third.
Doss has three wins to his credit, the first at Ukiah on May 20, another at Redwood Acres Raceway in Eureka on June 23, and the third at Ukiah on July 15.
Thorn has two 2006 victories, both at Eureka, on June 24 and July 29. Doss is the 2005 NSCS champion and Thorn cap-tured rookie of the year honors last season.
Kelseyville”s Andrew Snider is currently leading in the rookie standings.
Other local drivers expected to compete are Jimmy Stillman, Jr. (sixth in points), Darin Snider (eighth in points), Kevin Estep, Dustin Knight, Berndt Akerstrom and modified driver David Furia. Ford, Luke Hall and Eric Graham are traveling down from the north state, while C.J. Bawden will be representing the state of Nevada.
Junior Roddy of Gualala will make his annual appearance and “Hot Shoe” Ryan Foster of Redding will be behind the wheel of Golden Gate Racing”s No. 88.
Other divisions competing Saturday are the Northern California Racing Association bombers, mini-stocks and street stocks.
