The Clearlake City Council made its selection for the open seat on the Planning Commission last week. The council appointed Albert Bernal during its regular meeting, Thursday, Aug. 10.
Bernal will serve an unexpired term made vacant with former planning commissioner Curt Giambruno”s appointment to the city council. The term ends March 2007.
Selection for the appointment had been continued from the council”s July 27 meeting. Five candidates applied for the position; however, two applications were withdrawn.
Those vying for the position had included Bernal, Gina Fortino-Dickson and Gene Schwartz. Applications were withdrawn by Arlene Carter and Aqeela Bakheit.
Bernal is a six-year resident of Clearlake. He is a retiree of Pacific Gas & Electric Company, having been employed with the utility for 37 years. According to his application, Bernal holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from the College of Norte Dame.
“I have a lot of enthusiasm for our community and am eager to work to improve it,” Bernal states in his application. “I am skilled at analytical work, which is key to making sound decisions. Working with people is enjoyable to me, especially when the work results in benefits to all.”
Bernal has served six months on the City of Clearlake Economic Development Committee.
