LAKEPORT — A Finley woman was injured last week when her mobility scooter collided with a vehicle on Soda Bay Road.

According to the preliminary California Highway Patrol report, 60-year-old Leota Jauregui was traveling in the westbound traffic lane of Soda Bay Road on her scooter at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 11. Approximately 100 feet east of Meadow Road, she swerved across the double-yellow center lines.

Lori Strand of Lakeport was driving the oncoming vehicle in the eastbound lane. The CHP report said Strand stated that she saw Jauregui swerve into the eastbound lane and then back again as she was heading west on Soda Bay Road.

Shortly thereafter, said Strand, she heard a thump as Jauregui swerved again and struck the left mid- to rear-section of her vehicle.

Two Lake County Sheriff”s deputies responded to the collision, along with two CHP patrol cars at approximately 4:45 p.m.

Jauregui was transported by the Lakeport Fire Protection District to Sutter Lakeside Hospital at 5 p.m., then airlifted directly to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.

Although no chemical test was taken, Officer Dan Frederick stated that he smelled alcohol on the victim”s breath and found a broken bottle of what may have been an alcoholic beverage at the scene of the collision.

Jauregui was found to be at fault for traveling in an inappropriate area for pedestrians. No charges will be filed.
