LAKEPORT — Terry McIntire of Kelseyville claimed his fifth modified win of the season Saturday night at the Lakeport Speedway, that after narrowly dodging a late-race three-car tangle.

In other action Saturday, Rich Schramm Jr. of Nice recovered from a mid-race spin to win the mini-stock main event; Bob Strauss of Lucerne posted his second season win in the L.A. Cruisers division; David Winchell of Sebastopol dominated the field to win the Legends Car of the Pacific main event; and Ken Moeller and Dale Grant of Marin teamed up to win the first Great Train Race, an event featuring three cars strung together.

Modifieds

McIntire surged ahead of of Mike Smithhart during a late-race restart to take the lead for good in the modified main event. He took the checkered flag in front of Smithhart, Eric Johnson, Dan Bishop and Jeremy Nowlin.

Mini-stocks

After being involved in a lap-12 spin, mini-stock feature leader Schramm and Robert Schmidt powered to the front on the outside during the restart. Schramm made his winning pass on lap 16 and went on to take the checkered flag in front of Darrell LeVier, David Coyne, Brad Laird and Fred Schmidt.

L.A. Cruisers

Strauss pulled into the lead on lap 18 after winning a three-wide battle with Mike Smithhart and Tennessee driver Jennifer Rines and he held it all the way to the checkered flag. Mark Marek ended up second, Smithhart finished third, Paul Lauenroth was fourth and Rines came in fifth.

Legends Cars

Taking advantage of a lap-26 restart, Winchel got the jump on Mark Blevins, immediately opening up a two-car-length lead and quickly stretching it to four. Keith Clement spun in turn one moments later to bring out another yellow flag.

Winchel again got the jump on Blevins during the restart and at the checkered it was Winchel, Blevins, Frankie Marks, Jake Jackson and David Fisher.

Great Train Race

Four trains competed in the initial Great Train Race at the Lakeport Speedway. A train race is run with three cars strung together — the first has a driver and engine but no brakes, the middle car coasts with no driver, and the caboose car has a driver and brakes but no engine.

Moeller engineered the “Lime Green Train” and was positioned in the lead car while partner Grant ran in the IROC-Z caboose car. They blew away the competition, finishing laps ahead of the field.

Mike Smithhart/Richie Potts came in second and George Riehl/Bob Strauss finished third.

, and Jimmy Sorrels/Andy Norton finished fourth.

The final points race of the 2006 season takes place this Saturday when the modifieds, mini-stocks, street stocks and bombers all compete.
