LAKEPORT — George Abella wrapped up the points title in the bomber division and Terry McIntire nailed down the championship in the modified division during the final points race of the season Saturday night at the Lakeport Speedway.
The other divisional champions, who had their titles sewn up long ago, are Rich Schramm Jr. in the mini-stock class and Chris Salmina in the street stock class.
Modifieds
Bob Strauss, who ended up third in the final point standings, won the modified main, taking the checkered flag ahead of Dan Bishop, David Furia, Mike Smithhart and McIntire.
Steve Taylor set the fast time (12.728), Jeremy Nowlin won the trophy dash and Strauss and Jonathan Reynolds own the heat races.
Mini-stocks
Dale Preston won the last mini-stock feature race, finishing ahead of Richard Reynolds, David Coyne, Brad Laird and Fred Schmidt.
Schramm set the fast time (13.866), Laird won the trophy dash and Preston took the heat race.
Street stocks
Points champion Salmina put the final touches on his 2006 victory with a win in the main event. He was followed across the finish line by Gary Collins, Kyle Medina, Bill Mucci and Charlie Collins.
Salmina also set the fast time (13.775), Charlie Collins won the trophy dash and Keown topped the field in the heat race.
Bombers
Cody Braund claimed the victory in the Guy Strohmeier Auto Center bomber main event, beating Richard Schwarm, Brian King, Eric Johnson and Jimmy Sorrels.
Smith set the fast time of 14.968, a new track record, Mike Bray won the dash and King, Abella and Ron Portlock won the heat races.
L.A. Cruisers
Rick Bryant won the main event in the L.A. Cruiser division to retain his points lead 1,080 points to Strauss” 1,067. While the other North California Racing Association classes are done for the season, the L.A. Cruisers still have a points race remaining.
Bryant”s feature win was a photo finish over Donald Schleif, with Strauss third, Matt Briggs fourth and Paul Lauenroth fifth.
Mike Smithhart won the trophy dash and Strauss was first in the heat race.
Auto racing action resumes Sept. 16 with the Marlene Baker Bomber Bash No. 11. Pro-modifieds, street stocks and bombers will compete and the Eve of Destruction boat race also wil take place.
