A tour of Konocti facilities, on Monday, Aug. 21, provided a first-hand look at progress to-date on modernization and construction projects. Members of city and county government, the Konocti school board and bond oversight committee were among tour participants.
One of four new buses that were recently purchased by the district provided the means of travel, with Transportation Director Wayde Zuiderweg behind the wheel.
The tour moved from modular classrooms at Lower Lake High School to a remodeled portable at Oak Hill Middle School that houses sixth-grade students who were moved from Lower Lake Elementary. From there, it was off to East Lake Elementary School 9 “one of the hardest hit with construction,” according to construction representative Dana Moore, who is also director of buildings and grounds.
The tour concluded with a look at construction at Burns Valley Elementary School.
Remodeled buildings sported pitched roofs and carpeted floors, as well as wiring for the Internet, at various district sites.
“I”m impressed 9 I”m very impressed,” said Clearlake Mayor Joyce Overton and Konocti school board President Carolynn Jarrett observed that “The transformation at East Lake is just amazing.”
Projects are being supported by a $18.5 million general obligation bond, with some of the bond revenues applied as matching funds for state construction and modernization grants.
