UPPER LAKE — Cruz control.
That was the setting for the Upper Lake High School varsity boys” soccer team on Friday afternoon as the Cougars rolled past the South For Cubs 8-1 in a non-league game at Upper Lake.
Javier Cruz, a junior, scored five times and also had two assists as the Cougars evened their season record at 1-1.
Steven Tweedlie, Quinn Womachka and Max Curtis also had goals for Upper Lake.
“It was nice to see after our game with Anderson Valley (a 5-1 loss in the Cougars” season opener),” Upper Lake coach Joe Womachka said. “Everything came together. Everything that we had worked on in practice (since the Anderson Valley game) worked.”
The Cougars held a commanding 5-0 lead at the half.
Armando Ayala added two assists and Womachka and Sean Bellinger had one apiece for Upper Lake, which hosts Lower Lake on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
