Recent letters to the editor include letters opposing redevelopment in Lucerne. One writer apparently felt she was not allowed input into what was being proposed. I know that there were several forums in Lucerne for the residents to attend so they would be able to express their feelings about what should and should not take place.
I attended one or two of those meetings. I chose not to attend the rest; a busy schedule kept me away. That was my choice, however, and if my failure to attend meant I was not allowed input as to the proposed plans for Highway 20 development then so be it.
What irks me is that the letter writer says that the people of Lucerne were not given a choice and they want things to remain as they were. Where was she when the meetings took place? Why did she not attend and voice her opinion then?
The beautification of the Highway 20 corridor is necessary if we are to be a destination rather than a blighted town along the road to somewhere nice.
Why does this person feel that their opinion should matter more then all the rest? The Wee Loafers park is a decayed and falling down structure. One seldom sees it in use. If it is so important then why did it take many years for her to get involved?
The letter writer should have done something positive like get a group of citizens together to clean up and repair the site long ago. Now it is just another blighted structure.
Wake up, people of Lucerne, and smell the politicizing of our town.
