William Cyrle Carl? was born Sept. 21, 1927, in San Francisco and passed away on Aug. 31, 2006, in Auburn. William is survived by his wife Kathleen of 55 years; sister, Lois; children, Debra, Teresa, Lisa and Maria; sons-in-law, Richard, Kent Sr., David and Dave; and grandchildren, Sean, Sarah, Ryan, Derek, Kent Jr., Christopher, Jonathan and Emily; and great-grandchild, Micah.

William served 14 years in the U.S. Navy and Naval Reserve.

In 1957, William graduated from the University of San Francisco and moved to Middletown, where he assumed his first teaching position. From there, William moved to Clearlake Highlands and began teaching at Lower Lake High School. Wanting more experience, William later became principal of Burns Valley Elementary and Lower Lake Junior High School. In 1965, William became superintendent of the Konocti Unified School District until his retirement in September 1986. During his tenure, William was able to fulfill his dream of offering an education to all students by opening the William C. Carl? Continuation High School. After William”s retirement, he continued to enjoy his hobbies and spending time with his family.

A military dedication and Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Clearlake, followed by a reception.
