HEALDSBURG — It wasn”t the 56-12 drubbing they experienced at the hands of Healdsburg in last year”s season opener, but the Kelseyville Knights still couldn”t solve the Greyhounds on Friday night in the season opener for both of these varsity football teams at Recreation Park.
Healdsburg won 39-6 after building a 20-0 halftime lead.
Kelseyville scored the first touchdown of the second half when quarterback Tony Sekona scampered in from three yards out.
“They pounded on us early just like we figured,” Kelseyville coach Stan Weiper said. “There were moments when we functioned very well and we did put together one good drive.”
After Kelseyville closed to 20-6, Healdsburg scored 19 unanswered points, the final 13 in the fourth quarter, to put the game away.
Kyle Poloni”s 81 yards rushing led the Knights and Sekona added 15 yards.
Linebacker Josh Huston anchored the Kelseyville defense with 12 total tackles.
Kelseyville hosts St. Helena next Friday.
