“Xtreme Healers,” an adventure racing team consisting of Redbud Community Hospital team members, competed in the Golden Gate Adventure Race, held Sunday, Aug. 27 in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area in San Francisco.

The team, which consisted of Stephen Sprague, MD (Middletown Health Clinic); Carol Meyer, nurse practitioner (Kelsey Creek Clinic); Leslie Weeks, RN (Redbud Family Health Center); and Kara O”Hara-Bartram, clinic supervisor (Kelsey Creek Clinic); spent four grueling months training for the kayaking/running/mountain biking adventure race.

“The race was awesome!” shared team member O”Hara-Bartram. “We did a total of 37-plus miles of mountain biking, seven miles of kayaking around Alcatraz and back to Crissy Field. We climbed a total of 5,800 feet elevation and as a group burned over 20,000 calories and consumed 15 liters of water.” The team is already planning to participate in other adventure races in the future.
