LOWER LAKE — The Lake Transit Authority is applying for a federal grant to make bus stop improvements.
At the Sept. 6 meeting of the LTA, Transit Manager Mark Wall reported that an application had been submitted for $115,000, the maximum amount allowed by the Federal Transit Act”s Section 5317, the “New Freedoms” grant program.
“Given a very quick response schedule and scarce guidance from Caltrans, it seemed likely that they would receive few applications,” Wall stated, adding that he was very hopeful that the application would be successful; an evaluation committee ranked it at 98 out of 100 points.
The New Freedoms grant, if awarded, would improve 10 or more bus stops locally, making them more accessible to people with disabilities.
Wall noted that while an exact project list has not yet been compiled, several of the eligible stops are in the City of Clearlake and Lower Lake. Primary criteria for selecting the stops will be the need for improved access and the amount of demand for that stop.
