Thank you for printing Marie Craig”s letter (“The politicizing of Lucerne,” Readers” Views, Sept. 6).
I”m glad she attended the first couple of meetings (on the Lucerne redevelopment plan) and had the freedom to choose not to attend the rest. Those who did attend all, giving their input and “voting” as to what they wanted to see happen in our town, were greatly disappointed when what we got and what we voted on were two different things. That was the beginning of the politicization of redevelopment. This is why many feel “that the people of Lucerne were not given a choice …” We were only given the appearance of participation and that only happened because it was required by law.
Politicization is being caused by disinformation being intentionally dispersed. You know, divide and conquer. For the record, We Loafers was not part of the leased land gift that recently was the topic of “Rumble of Redevelopment.” It only included the Lucerne Club House.
To assume that people not in favor of redevelopment as proposed are against redevelopment in general is incorrect. What people in this town tell me they want is a valid and heard voice in what is happening. And they want redevelopment to start with the foundation, not the trusses. We also have asked the Board of Supervisors to allow this community a real-time say in what is being proposed; we don”t like squawking after the fact anymore than you want to hear it.
I have recently been in contact with Eric Seely from Redevelopment. So far he has been a breath of fresh air. He is listening, he is available and he seems willing to work with this town.
No one wants this town to fail. Perhaps the next round of meetings can be held not in the evening of a work day as that pretty much excludes our young folk with families. Perhaps on a weekend afternoon? It would be nice to see a survey sent out; my understanding is that every community but Lucerne has gotten that courtesy.
Let”s not let a “rumble” grow into a riot.
