LOWER LAKE — Jesus Fonseca scored what proved to be the game-winning goal with 10 minutes remaining and the Lower Lake Trojans scored their first victory on the field in 2006 with a come-from-behind 2-1 non-league varsity boys” soccer victory over the Geyserville Bronchos on Monday in Lower Lake.

Lower Lake (2-4) posted a forfeit win earlier this season, but it doesn”t compare to the victory over Geyserville, according to Lower Lake coach Joe Parker.

“The kids are pretty excited,” Parker said of his freshmen- and sophomore-dominated squad.

After the first half on Monday, it appeared as though the Trojans were in store for another tough day on the field as Geyserville led 1-0 on a goal accidently scored by Lower Lake.

But the Trojans pulled even at 1-1 on a goal by Leo Olivares 12 minutes into the second half. When Fonseca scored 15 minutes later, Lower Lake pushed ahead to stay.

The Trojans are home today to play St. Vincent and they travel to St. Helena Thursday. Both games start at 4:30 p.m.
