UPPER LAKE — Adding an offense to its already potent defense, the Anderson Valley Bearcats swept the Upper Lake Cougars 25-14, 25-10, 25-13 in a non-league varsity volleyball match on Thursday at Upper Lake.
“They are good,” Upper Lake coach Sandy Coatney said. “They dig up every ball but they”re also pounding the ball now.”
Rebecca Grupe led the Cougars with seven kills and she also had five digs. Other team leaders were Caity Falge with five kills and six digs and Sierra Higgins with six kills.
Upper Lake did win the junior varsity match 21-25, 25-18, 15-12 behind 20 assists from Courtney Havrilla and 11 kills and four aces from Jackie Lovrin.

Mendo def. Clear Lake
At Mendocino, the Mendocino Cardinals beat the Clear Lake Cardinal JVs in three games, 25-16, 17-25, 15-12.
“They played 100 percent better tonight than they did on Tuesday (in a loss to Anderson Valley),” Clear Lake coach Marci Psalmonds said. “We”re getting there.”
Katie Reynolds led the Cardinals with 11 points, seven assists and five aces. Other leaders were Tiffany Tyrrell with with five points, seven aces and six assits and Riley Gabehart with four kills.
