LAKEPORT — Lakeport Police Officer Richard Erickson was arrested Thursday by deputies with the Lake County Sheriff”s Department and staff members of the District Attorney”s office on an arrest warrant signed by Lake County Superior Court Judge Richard Martin. The arrest warrant was issued following an investigation by the District Attorney Investigators initiated by the staff of the Lakeport Police Department, which discovered the alleged misconduct and involved the District Attorney.
On Tuesday, a complaint was filed by the DA charging Erickson with felony charges of misappropriating government funds, stalking and making threats. A misdemeanor count of violating a restraining order was also charged in the complaint.
According to Chief of Police Kevin Burke, Erickson is an 11-year veteran of the Lakeport Police Department and because this matter involves an ongoing confidential personnel matter specifics cannot be discussed at this time. “I would like to commend the entire staff at the Lakeport Police Department for their significant role in bringing this matter to light. I am very proud of the entire Lakeport Police Department staff for their commitment to maintaining the high ethical standards the community expects and deserves, ” stated Burke, adding, “I would also like to thank the Lake County District Attorney”s Office for assisting the Lakeport Police Department with this difficult investigation.”
The arrest warrant was served on Erickson at his residence and he was booked into the Hill Road Correctional Facility. Erickson was booked with bail set at $10,000. According to an officer at the jail, Erickson was released at 9:54 a.m. Thursday.
