UPPER LAKE — Caity Falge connected on six kills and Rebecca Grupe and Jen Cox each had six as the Upper Lake Cougars needed only the minimum three games to beat the St. Bernard Crusaders 25-12, 25-12, 26-24 in a non-league varsity volleyball match on Friday in Upper Lake.
“They really spread it around,” Upper Lake coach Sandy Coatney said of his balanced hitting up front.
After winning the first two games, the Cougars emptied the bench in game three.
Falge also had 10 digs and four aces for Upper Lake. Grupe added five digs and four aces.
Upper Lake is part of the 10-team Cardinal Classic tournament today in Lakeport. Action begins at 8:30 p.m. The top three teams in each of the two five-team pools advance to the playoffs. Upper Lake”s pool includes Lower Lake, McKinleyville, Marin Catholic and St. Bernard.
Clear Lake and Middletown are in the other pool.
