SCOTTS VALLEY — A fire that ignited Wednesday afternoon burned a barn and an estimated three acres outside of Lakeport.
The fire broke out about 2:30 p.m. in the 2800 block of Scotts Valley Road.
At one point the fire jumped over land owned by Nick and Monica Ivicevich. It did not damage the Ivicevich property, according to Monica Ivicevich, who is the Record-Bee”s community news coordinator.
“It was pretty scary,” Monica said.
Firefighters used water from the Ivicevich pool to help fight the blaze, she noted.
She said neighbors were quick to jump in and offer to help move equipment and animals, but that it turned out that evacuation wasn”t necessary.
The main damage was to a barn standing on adjacent property, which was destroyed.
Lakeport Fire Protection District sent out three engines and a water tender, according to a spokesperson.
Responding to the fire along with Lakeport were personnel from California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection”s Kelsey-Cobb station, Kelseyville Fire Protection District, and Northshore Fire Protection District”s Nice and Upper Lake stations.
Firefighters remained on scene late into the evening to keep an eye out for hot spots.
