A downed power line and numerous propane tanks presented great hazards to firefighters responding to the blaze that completely destroyed this double wide mobile home on Modoc Street in Clearlake. Lake County Fire Protection District responded with two engines, a water tender, a rescue unit and a medic unit at about 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 29, and remained on scene for approximately three hours.

A downed power line on the northern side of the residence electrified the cyclone fencing around the home, presenting a hazard for those fighting the fire. Numerous propane tanks near the rear of the residence also presented a great hazard for personnel. Because the nearest fire hydrant was located north of the downed power line, personnel had to run 1,000 feet of large diameter hose (LDH) from a hydrant at Modoc Street and Sonoma Avenue to battle the blaze.

The home was unoccupied at the time of the fire, however a single mother and her 5-year-old daughter have been displaced. An account to assist Ladonia Dukes and her daughter has been established at Bank of the West. Those wishing to contribute to the relief effort may contact Mackenzie Albert at the Clearlake branch on Olympic Drive for

information. Account number is 166302737.
