Reservations are available for the annual Lake County Land Trust dinner, starting at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Community/Senior Center in Clearlake.
The Land Trust will be welcoming Congressman Mike Thompson who will speak briefly about a vital new conservation tax benefit for land owners that could be particularly helpful to local farmers and ranchers.
The Land Trust will be presenting a fun silent auction with a variety of art from local artists and students from Lower Lake High School. Victoria Kursa, a junior at LLHS has donated a handmade purse for the silent auction, and students in Miss Meier”s ceramics class at the school have donated some of their work for the fundraiser.
Close to 18 paintings by local artists will be available during the silent auction as well as a variety of activities like a walk and gourmet lunch at Rodman Slough, a sailboat ride and a bass fishing excursion.
Madelene Lyon is preparing an excellent Italian dinner and Harry Lyons, along with Herb Gura and Rick McCann, will provide music before dinner.
The Lake County Land Trust is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to the protection of open space and valuable wildlife habitat in Lake County. The trust has been successful in preserving an important wildlife preserve on the north end of Clear Lake surrounding Rodman Slough, spearheaded the effort to save the Black Forest and is presently working to renovate the small ranch house on the Rodman Slough property to serve as a nature center.
This will be the eighth annual dinner for the land trust, which started the tradition after the successful purchase of the Rodman Ranch and Slough. It has become a fun evening where the Land Trust board of directors, volunteers and supporters enjoy an evening of socializing, excellent food and good music, while bidding on silent auction items and enjoying fine Lake County Wines.
Many volunteers in the county help with land trust projects and the trust has started a tradition of honoring an individual volunteer at the annual dinner. This year the trust will once again recognize an individual who has contributed time and talent toward the organization”s goals.
Tickets to the event are available by sending payment to the Lake County Land Trust: PO Box 711, Lower Lake, CA 95457. Cost is $40 per person with dinner including wine, dessert and coffee. Please make your reservations as soon as possible. For information, call Roberta Lyons at 994-2024. All proceeds from the event benefit the Lake County Land Trust.
