MIDDLETOWN — A gang-related assault was responsible for one juvenile”s recent trip to the hospital.

The Lake County Sheriff”s Office (LCSO) reported Wednesday that a validated Varro Santa Rosa Norteno gang member and one other individual were arrested Sept. 27 on Wardlaw Street in Middletown in connection with the assault.

LCSO received a 911 call stating that three unknown juveniles were in the process of physically assaulting a fourth juvenile.

When LCSO units arrived on scene the 16-year-old victim was being treated by California Department of Forestry (CDF) medical personnel for head wounds. CDF personnel stated that when they arrived on scene the victim was unconcious and covered in blood.

Sheriff”s spokesman Sgt. Mike Morshed indicated that prior to being transported to Redbud Hospital the victim stated he remembered arguing with three male suspects. At Redbud Hospital it was determined the victim had sustained cranial hemorrhaging and facial fractures as a result of the assault. The victim was then airlifted to a trauma center in Santa Rosa for treatment.

Morshed said LCSO recognizes the growing problem of gang activity within Lake County and is currently taking all possible steps to identify and track criminal gang members residing within this county.

The two juvenile suspects who were arrested were charged with battery with serious bodily injury. The other suspect is still outstanding.
