As I read Sept. 23”s front page story about charges being filed against the Lakeport Police officer who is accused of misappropriating funds, I was reminded of Frances Ransley”s recent letter to the editor in which she discussed the county supervisor who had used his county cell phone on county time for personal phone calls (“Public has the right to know,” Readers” Views, Sept. 9).
I was reminded of the 2006 Grand Jury report which took up that same issue and found that wrongdoing had occurred.
Then ask yourself why no punitive action has been taken against the supervisor and yet charges have been filed against the police officer.
Let”s be generous and hope that the supervisor”s misappropriation of county property is the whole enchilada. Let”s not debate the similarities between his behavior and those of the police officer. Let”s not consider whether this may be the tip of the iceberg of improper behavior and that the supervisor”s bad behavior is being condoned by the county or how that affects the county”s reputation.
Even so, it appears that this supervisor is challenging the notion that he should be held to a higher standard.
