In June when there was a registered sex offender arrested for allegedly raping a 16-year-old boy in Clearlake Oaks I went to the Megan”s Law Web site and looked up the person arrested. He looked nothing like the picture posted on Megan”s Law and the jail mug shot.
I e-mailed the Department of Justice because I feel that this Web site gives people a false sense of security; the pictures are very outdated and do not even look like the offenders anymore. The Department of Justice wrote me back and informed me that it is up to our sheriff”s department to update the pictures.
I e-mailed the sheriff”s department about my concern and received no response, and this was in June. I want people to realize that this Web site is very inaccurate and that they should look at everyone as a potential sex offender. The person who was arrested has a 22-year-old picture posted on Megan”s Law.
