LOWER LAKE — The Middletown Mustangs struck for three first-half goals despite the best efforts of Lower Lake keeper Suzie Carlson and went on to beat the Trojans 4-0 in a North Central League I North varsity girls” soccer game at Gordon Sadler Field.

Middletown, a team built to win now, improved to 5-0 in the North standings, while Lower Lake, in a full-blown rebuilding mode, fell to 0-5.

“I”m just hoping we”ve got some momentum going into those last three (league) games,” Middletown coach Louise Owens said of upcoming road contests against Willits (Oct. 17), Fort Bragg (Oct. 24) and Kelseyville (Oct. 26).

“We played good technical soccer,” Owens said in summarizing her team”s latest win.

Lower Lake had just two shots on goal but did do well to limit Middletown to four goals. Carlson had to fill in for starting keeper Megan Riley, who was out sick, and did a pretty good job according to both coaches.

“The Lower Lake goalie did a fantastic job,” Owens said. “We put some nice shots on her and she made some great saves.”

“She did a wonderful job,” Lower Lake coach Pam Campbell said.

Zoe Everett, Amber Lofton, Kayla Welton and Kelsey Welton scored Middletown”s goals.
