I would like to respond to Eric Schneider”s letter, “What”s the point in voting” (Readers” Views, Sept. 28).

The United States is not a true democracy but is a federal republic of individual states established by our Constitution. There are congressmen who represent you in Washington. When you do not vote you have no representation in government and your choices or views will not be known.

Today we have the Bush administration running our government, which is influenced by big corporations and big money. President Bush recently came to Reno and wanted $250 to hear him speak and $2,100 for a picture with him. As usual, his message was “Stay the course.”

If you want to remove the big corporate money influence on our government and change your government representatives then you better go vote.
