August “Gus” Schnabl was born Nov. 14, 1928, in San Francisco and passed away peacefully at home Oct. 16, 2006, in Kelseyville, where he had lived since his move with his family in the spring of 1940.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara, whom he wed in July of 1948; children, Marilyn (husband Frank), Rod (wife Sylvia), Teri Sedrick (husband Jerry), and Kevin (wife Chrisanna); six grandchildren, Elizabeth (husband Jose), Eric (wife Mary), Rick, Jace (wife Nicole), Morgan and Blake; five great-grandchildren with another on the way; and various other family members and friends.

Gus was born in the city, but had the heart of a country boy and was thrilled to move to Kelseyville when his father made a home trade.

He graduated from Kelseyville High School (home of the Indians) with the class of 1946.

After high school, he went back to San Francisco to learn blacksmithing.

In 1948, he and Barbara went to Reno and became one.

After a few unfulfilling jobs, he started an automotive repair business with his wife in a barn on his parents” property, located at 6th and Church streets in Kelseyville, in July of 1954. The business is now owned and operated by his sons.

He had served on the Kelseyville Cemetery Board and was on the water board until his health failed. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association and Lake County Historical Society. For many years he was a sponsor of race car drivers at our local track in Lakeport.

At the family”s request, there will be no services. Private interment in Kelseyville.
