CLOVERDALE — Karina Martinez scored the 88th, 89th and 90th goals of her four-year varsity career on Thursday as the Clear Lake Cardinals shut out the Cloverdale Eagles 8-0 in a North Central League I South varsity girls” soccer game.

The Clear Lake record is 101 goals by former standout Brittany Mills.

Julie Jackson had two goals and three assists for the Cardinals (5-0-1 South, 16-3-1 overall).

In other action Thursday:

St. Helena 2, M”town 0

At Middletown, a strong effort on defense by Middletown wasn”t enough to stop St. Helena in NCL I interlock action.

“Not that the score shows it, but our defense did a really great job,” Middletown coach Louise Owens said.

Zoe Everett and Teina Moore powered the Mustangs, according to Owens.

St. Vincent 4, Upper Lake 1

At Upper Lake, a violent head-to-head collision between Upper Lake”s Yessica Ayala brought an early end to St. Vincent”s win over the Upper Lake Cougars in NCL I South action. The game was called midway through the second half.

Ayala left the game with a concussion and the St. Vincent player sustained a gash across her forehead that required stitches.

Ayala scored in the first half for Upper Lake (2-4-1 South, 4-10-1 overall).

Willits 1, Kelseyville 0

At Willits, Willits scored with 40 seconds left in the first half and made that goal stand up in an NCL I North win over Kelseyville.

“They have no desire to quit,” Kelseyville coach Michael Leuck said of his players. “They go the whole 80 minutes as hard as they can. I”m really proud of them.”

Daisy Medina and Jodi Snider were standouts on defense for Kelseyville (2-4, 4-7).

Boys” soccer

K”ville 3, Willits 2

At Kelseyville, Jorge Macias collected a rebound off a hard shot by teammate Andres Macias and knocked the ball back into the net during stoppage time to lift the Kelseyville Knights to a dramatic win over Willits in NCL I North play that keeps the Knights (4-1-1 league, 7-2-2 overall) alive for a league title and playoff berth.

Andres Macias had a goal and two assists for the Knights and Miguel Martinez added another goal.

Kelseyville led 2-0 after one half. Willits tied it with two goals early in the second half.

Clear Lake 3, Cloverdale 2

At Cloverdale, Armando Martinez scored three more goals and the Clear Lake Cardinals maintained their spot atop the NCL I South standings with a hard-fought win over the Cloverdale Eagles.

Clear Lake (3-1-2 South, 11-3-3 overall) led 2-1 at half. Martinez scored his final goal early in the second half to make it 3-1.

“There were a lot of hard tackles and physical play,” Clear Lake coach Brian Figg said. “Most of it was positive.”

Volleyball

Clear Lake def. St. Vincent

At Petaluma, Clear Lake rallied for a 24-26, 25-18, 17-25, 25-17, 15-10 win over St. Vincent in an NCL I South marathon.

Clear Lake (2-1) was led by Shana Hiatt”s 17 kills and five blocks. Savannah Harrison added 15 kills.

“When the pressure was on we really started performing,” Clear Lake coach David Laven said. “They scrapped really good the last couple of games.”

Kirsten Wascom had four kills and five blocks for Clear Lake.
