It”s not often that you get the chance to help shape the future of a community. It”s not often that you get the chance to have input into how to protect and enhance thousands of acres of California watershed land. Through the work of the Stewardship Council, that opportunity is available to you, and we hope that you won”t miss the chance to make a difference in your community.
The Stewardship Council is a private foundation charged with developing a land conservation plan for over 140,000 acres of land (currently owned by Pacific Gas and Electric Co.) spread across 22 California counties, including over 7,400 acres in Mendocino and Lake County. Our mission is to protect these lands, as well as working landscapes, in perpetuity for the benefit of the people of California. In early 2007 our board of directors will adopt a Land Conservation Plan (LCP) setting out a vision and framework to accomplish this mission. It is our greatest hope that this plan will balance and reflect local community input. This is where we need your help.
Over the next few months the Stewardship Council staff and board members will host community meetings across California. Please join us, tell us what you think, and provide your perspective on what makes sense for your community. Our goal is to understand the unique needs and interests of each community where the lands are located, and develop a plan that appropriately reflects this input. While we”ve been gathering community input for more than a year now, and we have made substantial progress in our planning efforts, we want to be sure that everyone who would like to be engaged in this process has the opportunity to provide their input before we finalize our Land Conservation Plan.
Please join the Stewardship Council in this important effort to conserve and protect watershed lands and uses for California. Together, we will make a lasting contribution to California for generations to come.
