I would like to point out to the people of District 3 and the Record-Bee that I am concerned about the recent paid ad by the Lakeport Regional Chamber of Commerce.
They state that their reason for not recommending the challenger in the District 3 Supervisor race was that, according to them, the challenger had only lived in Lake County for 18 months in addition to their “concern” that her political philosophy runs counter to “what we support and are trying to encourage in the county.” Specifically, who are the “we” in this statement?
I would like to remind the chamber and all the “we” folks in the chamber that I had only lived here six months before I decided to run for District 3 Supervisor. The reasons I ran were the comments made to me by the supervisor at that time. When questioning him about the issue I had brought forth his ultimate response was that maybe I”d “picked the wrong place to live.”
In response to that dismissive attitude I ran for and was elected by the people of District 3 for a first term. District 3 went on to vote to return me to my position of representing them an addition three terms. I have been forever thankful for the people of District 3 for allowing me to serve them for 16 years.
Longevity does not make a good representative of the people. Care, concern and curiosity about where you live make a good leader. People vote for their representative. Businesses do not vote.
