I wonder when Darrell Watkins was last on the campus of Lower Lake High School? I spent all day Wednesday at the high school speaking to all 160 seniors. Students currently enrolled at Yuba College who graduated from LLHS accompanied me to present to the class of 2007. These college students who are alumni of LLHS are performing quite well with the academic rigor of the college. I”m proud of them and they were evidently well prepared by the high school staff for higher education. They spoke about the transition they”ve made from the high school to the college and their future goals.
In all of the presentations we made on Wednesday, the high school students were highly attentive and courteous. They asked questions that displayed sensitivity, inquisitiveness and curiosity about the college”s potential role in their future. I did not see any examples of the “wild” behavior Mr. Watkins mentioned (“They have no business holding high officer,” Readers” Views, Oct. 12). I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Konocti Unified School District high school and found the students and staff to be a pleasure.
Perhaps Mr. Watkins could visit classrooms and speak from first-hand observations rather than hearsay.
