Choices. We all have them. Recently I canceled my homeowner”s insurance policy with Lincoln-Leavitt Insurance Agency of Lakeport. I explained to Tom Lincoln, chairman of the Government Affairs Committee representing Lakeport Regional Chamber of Commerce, why I was doing this. Now I would like to take this opportunity to address the reasons for my policy cancellation.
As stated in the Chamber of Commerce endorsement, there is a very broad business representation. I question whether the board of directors (whose names aren”t even accurate on their Web site) represent these businesses as a whole. This, I suspect, is one of the many reasons why historically the chamber has “shied away from” political endorsements.
The Web site showing the Government Affairs Committee”s policy platform statement says it all. Now it”s time for the businesses to do their homework, access the Web site, show up to meetings asking questions and possibly reevaluate their leadership/membership in an organization that does not appear to represent the community as a whole.
