Thank you, Record-Bee, for cosponsoring the District 3 Supervisor candidates” debate. It”s good to see so many people interested in democracy.
While District 3 elects our next supervisor, our county, as a whole, needs to look at the schism between “newer” people and the old-timers.
Every supervisors” meeting sees someone stating how long they”ve lived here. Many supervisors have declared their own length of residency as a matter of course.
While living here for many years can, in itself, be an indication of knowledge and concern, it”s not the only yardstick to measure achievement or merit. If that were so, might we see more respect for those natives with the deepest ties of ancestry in Lake County? And what could explain the county”s frequent importation of outside consultants, gurus or experts? Recent actions by the board indicate a desire to attract new residences, yet the board”s still apt to give the impression of old, entrenched perspective that trumps new approaches to their tasks.
Let”s hope that all Lake County residents get out to vote this year and that all come together to participate in our democracy. Lake County”s well-being and the decisions that will shape our future, together, are at stake!
