UPDATED:

I wonder how many people read Victoria Brandon”s “My View” in the Oct. 19 edition of the Record-Bee? How many readers recognized the application of the provision of Proposition 90 to our county?

We are surrounded by lakeside wetland areas which have been classified as environmentally protected against development. There is a large area across from Clipper Lane so designated, as well as a large area between Land”s End and Holiday Cove, just for two local examples.

If Proposition 90 were to pass, the owners of these two parcels could claim they were prevented from building hundreds of homes on these sites and require the developers to be compensated as if they could be developed, thus requiring huge outlays by the taxpayers.

What I would really like to know is how this provision was inserted into what was actually a good proposition originally. Who was paid off by lobbyists (and evidently it was a lot more than one or two individuals)? This is the kind of shenanigan that make voters so cynical. How can we possibly vote against our unknown representatives who willingly agreed to insert such a clause which would enrich those who bought our wetlands and tidal zones at low prices because “everyone knows” they are not developable and then proceed to rip off the state by changing the wording of the state”s constitution?

Voters beware!
