I would like to commend Ed Robey, supervisor of District 1, for the courageous letter he wrote (“Setting the record straight,” Readers” Views, Oct. 11). He detailed how Gary Lewis utterly failed to represent the citizens of Lucerne in their time of need, when the new owners of their water system made an absurd request for a rate hike of over 250 percent. He also detailed how Mr. Lewis tried to invent a good excuse that simply was not the truth. Why Mr. Lewis turned his back on the people he was supposed to represent will most likely never be known.
It is a sad commentary on our society that Mr. Robey s courage and honesty was almost shocking. Even sadder is that while our state and federal governments no longer have grant monies available to fund the basic infrastructure needs of our own communities, we have an $8 trillion national debt while we are building water treatment and sewer plants in Iraq.
So many good men and women have given their lives for us to have the responsibility and right to vote. If you fail to vote you have no one to blame for this shabby state of affairs and the shame is on you.
