Hanes, Wal-Mart, JC Penney and Puma currently employ 300 children, ages 11 and under, in their Bangladesh factory to make our clothes. The children interviewed testified that they are hit and beaten. Their wages are six cents an hour. The plant they work in is called Harvest Rich.
Seven hundred thousand Americans died in a great bloody battle over slavery. That was the Civil War. These deaths show that the majority of Americans do not approve of slavery or any other abuses of human life by employers. From 1908 to 1912 textile mills here in the U.S. employed children ages 5 to 11 years old. Just like the children in Bangladesh they were beaten and worked more than 10 hour days for wages that ranged from 10 cents an hour to 40 cents a day. When Americans found out about these employer abuses, they passed laws against the exploitation of children throughout this country. As Americans we do not have to contribute to these predatory practices of harvesting the sweat and tears of children to make Wal-Mart, Hanes, Puma or JC Penney rich. We can read the labels and just not buy.
On a different topic: From March 2003, to now, the Bush Administration has spent $1 trillion on the Iraq war. Where is that money coming from? China. Seems the U.S. Treasury and the Federal Reserve have devised an “off-budget” account for us. Just boggles the mind to think of China lending us $1 trillion. China is the biggest communist country on earth, now bailing out the “richest” capitalistic country on earth. We are now using communism to save and finance capitalism. My, my, my, my, my.
