Sunday, Oct. 15, dawned clear and crisp; and turned out to be perfect race conditions for the Hidden Valley Lake Milers running club. The Milers turned out in force to compete in the “Vineyard Run for Literacy,” held at Steele Winery in Kelseyville. The race, hosted by the Lake County Literacy Coalition, is part of the Steele Wines” annual Harvest Festival and focuses on raising funds for Lake County literacy programs.

Top wins were captured in both the 5K and 10K by Milers John and Jeremy Dedmond.? Jeremy Dedmond, age 15, came in first place overall in the 5K (3.1 mile) with a finishing time of 18:35 minutes (5:59 pace). John Dedmond, age 17, competing in the 10 K (6.2 mile) race, walked away with the first place overall victory.? John”s winning time was 39:49 (6:25 minute/mile) pace. HVL Miler Lisa Mattson captured the first place overall female title in the 5K, with a time of 27:02.

The other Milers who placed in the event were as follows: Damon Mattson, second place overall 5K time 19:11 (6:11 pace), Pat Fadeeff, first place 60-plus age division female 5K (31:08); Bill Burnett, first place 60-plus age division male 5K (28:31);? Jeanine Burnett, second place overall female 10K (49:46); Tyler Burnett, first place 12-14 age division male 10K (49:16).

The Hidden Valley Milers welcomes joggers of all speeds to join in on the weekly club runs. The Saturday club runs start at 8:30 a.m. sharp, leaving from the HVL Hardester”s quad area. The Milers are also interested in building a walking group, so please call if you are interested.
