WILLITS — The Kelseyville Knights clinched a tie for the North Central League I North varsity volleyball championship with a 25-16, 25-7, 25-6 victory over the Willits Wolverines on Thursday night in Willits.

Kelseyville improved to 6-0 in league and 29-5 overall. The Knights can wrap up the undisputed North championship for a second year in a row with a win at home on Tuesday night against the second-place Lower Lake Trojans (4-2).

“We really played some good defense and so did Willits,” Kelseyville coach Larry Bresso said. “The score might not show it, but we had some good ones (rallies) and some long ones.”

The Knights also rebounded from a poor serving performance at the Northgate Tournament last weekend in Walnut Creek with a solid effort against the Wolverines.

“We had 75 serves and only four errors,” Bresso said. “(Lauren) Nixon served the lights out and so did Jamie Stockman.”

Stockman had a stretch of 10 straight points during the match.

Katie King”s nine kills and 10 digs led the Knights. Lauren Nixon also turned in a solid effort with five kills, five blocks, 10 digs and five aces.

“It was a good match,” Bresso said. “Willits has a very young team.”
