LAKEPORT — Three-way tie with two matches remaining.
That”s the situation in the North Central League I South volleyball standings after Clear Lake”s 25-17, 25-18, 25-18 win over the Cloverdale Eagles on Thursday night in Lakeport, where it was all Clear Lake from the opening serve.
“They just don”t match up well with us,” Clear Lake coach David Laven said of the smaller Eagles (4-2), whose only two South losses have been to the Cardinals (4-2).
St. Helena, the team that has beaten Clear Lake twice in league play, is also 4-2. St. Helena plays at Cloverdale on Tuesday.
“It was like hitting in practice,” Laven said of the taller Cardinals” dominance at the net. “They had no one who could block us.”
Savannah Harrison led the Clear Lake kill parade with 13, Shana Hiatt had nine, Kirsten Wascom six and Danielle Howard four.
Clear Lake”s serving game was on as well. Sophomores Howard and Claire Mansell had no errors on a combined 40 serves.
Clear Lake is 14-10 overall.
Cloverdale won the junior varsity match 25-19, 25-17. Tiffany Tyrrell had eight assists, six service points and four digs for the Cardinals.
Lower Lake def. Fort Bragg
At Lower Lake, Passion Allen and Amber Shoffeitt blasted away at the Fort Bragg Timberwolves and the Lower Lake Trojans strengthened their hold on second place in the NCL I North standings with a 25-16, 20-25, 25-15, 25-20 win.
Allen led Lower Lake (4-2) with 10 kills and Shoffeitt had nine. The Trojans also got a big lift at the service line from Chelsey Fiedler, who scored 16 points, including five aces.
“She had a good service game and not a half-bad setting game,” Lower Lake coach Danessa Udy said.
Renita Gilliam also had three blocks for the Trojans, who have won four straight matches.
Lower Lake also won the JV match 25-16, 25-22 behind strong net play and serving from Jessica Banda and Tashee Denson. The Lower Lake JVs are also 4-2 .
