UKIAH — A Lucerne man was allegedly forced to the side of the road and shot in the leg Friday morning as he was driving to work.

The Mendocino County Sheriff”s Department reported that a 29-year-old Hispanic male was on his way to work in Boonville where he is employed as a construction worker, when a vehicle behind him forced him to pull over to the side of the road near Robinson Creek Road.

According to a press release, he was assaulted by four Hispanic men wearing face masks, who then stole items from the victim and his vehicle.

The assailants fled toward Anderson Valley after shooting the victim in the leg.

The victim used his cell phone to call his family in Lucerne for help. A family member then transported him to Ukiah Valley Medical Center.

Detectives are asking that anyone who may have witnessed this crime call 463-4086. Callers may remain anonymous.
