LAKEPORT (AP) — A home winemaker who was moving a large vat of grapes and juice was crushed and killed when it somehow came loose from his forklift, authorities said.
Agustin Medoza Alonso, 53, suffered his fatal injuries around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at his home south of Lakeport, the Lake County Sheriff”s Department said.
Authorities said it appeared a plastic vat weighing an estimated 3,000 pounds tipped over or fell after coming loose from the forklift and landed directly on top of Alonso.
A 7-year-old boy, believed to be Alonso”s son, discovered him under the vat, Chief Deputy Russ Perdock said.
