The Midtown Overlay Project is underway in Clearlake. Ghilotti Construction Company, of Santa Rosa, has completed the paving portion of the project and will continue with other street repair improvements included in its contract with the city. The project is expected to be complete by the middle of this week.

The contract with Ghilotti Construction is in the amount of $379,724, which was the low bid received for the project.

The streets included in the Midtown Overlay Project are Baylis Avenue from Lakeshore Drive and Uhl Avenue; Uhl Avenue from Alvita Avenue to Howard Avenue; Howard Avenue from Lakeshore Drive to Uhl Avenue; and Pearl Avenue from Howard Avenue to Uhl Avenue.

Clearlake Public Works Superintendent Jim Hale said that he anticipates Ghilotti will finish the job by the middle of next week. “They were out there raising the manhole rings today,” Hale said on Wednesday, Nov. 8. “Now they have to back the shoulders.” (Backing the shoulders, Hale explained, is leveling out the edges of the roadway with gravel.)

Funding for the project was allocated through the City of Clearlake”s 2006-07 budget, which includes $360,000 that was received from a California Transportation Commission grant last April. The project is one of three capital projects budgeted for the current fiscal year. Another capital project the city is looking to complete in 2006-07 is the Burns Valley Sidewalk Project, which is expected to begin Summer 2007. The third capital project, which has been completed, was winter slide repairs at Lakeshore and San Joaquin drives and Highway 53 at Olympic Drive.
