Thank you, Record-Bee, for printing the letter from Clifton Swetnam, “Considering night meetings” on Nov 11, 2006. I am so glad you were not one of the founding fathers, Mr. Swetnam. “Sorry, guys, I can only fight the redcoats between 8 and 5, Monday through Friday” may have been your rallying cry. Democracy is hard work. It is not supposed to be convenient. Public servants should serve the public. If that is too difficult for someone then they should move on to the private sector. Or maybe not as these folks frequently work different shifts any day or night of the week.

We are at a critical point in this nation, all the way from D.C. to Lake County. It”s time to put down the cold one, turn off the TV or computer, get your behind off the couch and roll up your sleeves. There is a great amount of work to do (much of it volunteer), far more than can be achieved in a 40-hour week. If there is anyway to accommodate the public with the shifting of important meetings to bring them to the people then a way must be found! No one suggested that every meeting be moved. “If you can”t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen,” Mr. Swetnam. As most of working class Americans have discovered recently, no one is irreplaceable.
