REDDING — It was no fluke.
The only brother-and-sister combination to win Lake County Record-Bee “Athlete of the Year” honors is now the answer to another trivia question, this one at the collegiate level.
Name the only brother and sister, both Kelseyville High School graduates, to be inducted into the Shasta College Athletic Hall of Fame? What”s more, they were inducted the same year.
Answer: Jason and Heather James.
The son and daughter of Lyle and Jill James of Kelseyville, Jason and Heather were inducted into Shasta College”s Hall of Fame on Oct. 13 following standout tennis careers at the college.
Jason, now a fishing guide on the Sacramento River out of Anderson, was the Bay Valley Conference singles champion in 1998, teamed up with Ryan Endraske to win the BVC doubles championship that same year, was named to the All-BVC team in 1998 and 1999, and qualified for the state finals both years.
Heather James-Patterson, a veterinarian in Stockton, is now married and the mother of a 10-month-old daughter. Heather won the BVC singles championship in 1999, was named to the All-BVC team that same year and also qualified for the Nor-Cal State Tourney qualifier in 1999.
The James siblings were among 13 athletes inducted into the Shasta College Hall of Fame Class of 2006.
Jason graduated from Kelseyville in 1997 and was named the Record-Bee”s male Athlete of the Year for the 1996-1997 sports season. Heather graduated from Kelseyville in 1995 and was named the Record-Bee”s female Athlete of the Year for the 1994-1995 sports season.
