As a baby boomer — enduring heated family arguments, television news and high school teachers telling us about the then-active Vietnam War — I remember clearly and vividly what they said about why we could not get out of Vietnam. Repeatedly television showed and detailed that if we left Vietnam there would be a horrendous blood bath as the North Vietnamese (our Communist enemies) would kill millions of South Vietnamese (the ones we went there to save). High school teachers demonstrated on wall maps “The Domino Theory” wherein Communism would take over the whole world, beginning with Vietnam and moving on to Cambodia, Laos and then the next country and the next, just like lined-up dominos falling down if we got out “now”.
Days before our pullout I remember clearly the scenes on TV where big cargo aircraft landed at an airstrip in South Vietnam and thousands of Vietnamese ran to get onto the planes carrying suit cases, grabbing each other to hoist in, children being shoved in, planes taking off while people tried desperately to get into them as they moved down the runway filled beyond capacity. One plane after another crammed full with people leaking out and falling out. I remember crying when they showed us thousands of others still on the ground begging, pleading, crying and hoping that more planes would show up, in a minute, to take them out, worried that at any second the North Vietnamese would arrive and start slaughtering them in droves.
Television commentators lied to us all. None of the South Vietnamese were ever slaughtered. Not even the south military men were killed. They were put into light- weight rehabilitation camps and were not beaten. The South became one with the North quietly. U. S. manufacturing companies moved in and we buy many of our clothes from there. The one thing that saved the South Vietnamese from more deaths was: We got out!
The moral of this story: Television has a vested (financial interest) in keeping our hysteria up on not pulling out of Iraq. The same reasons are being pumped on television now, as then, on why we can”t, just yet, get out. They are preying on our American moral sympathies. This time it isn”t “The North will kill the South”. This time it is “The Sunni and Shi”ites, in a bloody civil war, will slaughter each other”.
When last I wrote here, I posted “650,000 Iraqis died from March 2003 to now.” We need to add the new October 2006 figure of 3700 more now dead. The longer we stay the worse it gets. The ultimate goal of the USA/Israeli kill game is to exterminate all aboriginal Lebaneese, aboriginal Iranians, aboriginal Syrians, and the ones who do not flee or die will be put in concentration camps or reservations like the Palistinians are currently enduring. Israel has been working on this goal since 1920 — Hypatia Popol ”06.
