KELSEYVILLE — A 13-year-old suffered moderate injuries after he was struck by a car while legally crossing State Route 29 at Live Oak Drive early Thursday morning.

The Kelseyville youth was headed east toward the town at approximately 7 a.m. when Middletown resident Alden Follett apparently failed to see him in the crosswalk while turning left from Live Oak Drive onto State Route 29.

Witnesses told California Highway Patrol that Follett”s Toyota was moving at approximately 15 miles per hour when it struck the 13-year-old male, throwing him into the car”s windshield.

He was taken by ambulance to Sutter Lakeside Hospital to be treated for lacerations and contusions on his face, chest and legs.

The Clear Lake CHP Office reminds drivers that school is in session, and to be extra vigilant around crosswalks and school bus stops. Although a driver may have a green light at an intersection, the law requires the driver to yield to pedestrians and vehicles in a crosswalk.
