POTTER VALLEY — Jameson Holder scored 20 points, including four 3-pointers, and the Clear Lake Cardinals rolled past the Laytonville Warriors in the opening round of the Potter Valley Tournament on Wednesday night in Potter Valley.

“Holder had an outstanding shooting night,” Clear Lake coach Ken Hook said.

Freddy Olloqui”s passing and Tyler Glazier”s rebounding were among the other highlights for the Cardinals, who emptied their bench early on against the Warriors. Clear Lake led 17-6 after one quarter and 40-16 by halftime.

Olloqui finished with eight points and three other players — Brandon White, Kory Hook and Armando Martinez — finished with seven.

Clear Lake plays an opponent yet to be determined in the winner”s semifinals on Friday at 8 p.m.

At Potter Valley, Caity Falge scored 15 points but the Upper Lake Cougars still came up short against St. Bernard in the opening round of the Potter Valley Tournament.

Upper Lake (0-6) trailed 32-22 at halftime and 48-33 after three quarters.

Cierra Peel had nine points for the Cougars and Rebecca Grupe added six.

Upper Lake opened the season with a loss to Potter Valley. Since then, the Cougars have fallen 43-28 to El Molino, 36-25 to Ferndale, 49-47 in overtime to Mendocino and 72-28 to Fortuna.

Falge scored in double figures in the losses to El Molino and Ferndale with 13 and 10 points, respectively. Grupe was the high scorer against Mendocino with 16 and Rebecca Breton added 12 points. Courtney Gatton”s six points led the team against Fortuna.

The Cougars play in the consolation semifinals Friday at 12:30 p.m.
