LOWER LAKE — There”s nothing like a bit of homecooking.

Sophomore center David Clark, a 6-foot-3 force inside for the Trojans, scored 28 points, breaking the old single-game tournament record of 26, as the Lower Lake High School junior varsity boys” basketball team breezed past the Upper Lake Cougars 65-29 in second-round action Tuesday night at the 13th annual Record-Bee Hoop Classic at Lower Lake High School.

Clark certainly felt at home on his homecourt, scored 26 of his points in the first three quarters as the Trojans squared their tournament record at 1-1. His final two points came early in the fourth quarter before coach Chris Richardson pulled his starters with Lower Lake up by more than 30 points.

“He”s pretty hard to stop down low and I”ve told him he can score almost whenever he wants,” Richardson said following the game.

Clark made a high percentage of shots and also had several putbacks following misses by teammates.

Lower Lake led 16-8 after one quarter and 34-12 at halftime. Upper Lake pulled to within 17 points on a James Eubanks 3-pointer midway through the third quarter, but from that point it was all Lower Lake. The Trojans scored the final 14 points of the period and the first four of the fourth quarter to complete an 18-0 run and open up a 56-21 lead.

George Novak added nine points for the Trojans and Michael Bell had eight.

Dillon Gonzales scored eight points and Eubanks had seven to lead Upper Lake, now 0-2 in the tournament standings.

Middletown”s first point didn”t come until Zack Strickler made a free throw with 6:41 left in the second quarter and it was a 13-1 game before the Mustangs finally scored their first basket on a Strickler layup with 5:53.

Strickler hit a 3-pointer to make it 13-6 but that would be as close as the Mustangs would get to the Knights, who led 22-10 at halftime.

Duman scored seven ponts in the third quarter as Kelseyville moved out to a 34-14 advantage.

Strickler”s six points paced the Mustangs.
