LOWER LAKE — Marty Udy had to sweat a little bit, but Lower Lake High”s varsity boys” basketball coach nailed down another title in the coach 3-point shooting contest Tuesday night at the 13th annual Record-Bee Hoop Classic.
The round-robin tournament took a day off on Wednesday and resumes today at 3:30 p.m. at Lower Lake High School.
Udy, the final shooter of the five varsity coaches, had to beat a score of 10 posted by Clear Lake coach Ken Hook. Udy hit his 10th trey with 27.8 seconds left to tie Hook but No. 11 didn”t drop until there were 5.7 seconds remaining. It was the lowest winning score since the first year the contest was held 1999 when Udy won with 15.
Udy has won the last two and six of the eight coach 3-point shoots.
Four-point-play opportunity
Kelseyville”s Joe Gatlyn sank a 3-pointer and drew a foul with 6:32 remaining in the second quarter Tuesday night in the Knights” 46-43 loss to Middletown. Gatlyn went to the free-throw line with the opportunity to complete a four-point play but missed the free throw.
Free-throw, 3-point contests
The free-throw and 3-point contests for junior varsity and varsity players take place on Friday. The JV contests follow the Upper Lake vs. Middletown JV game, which tips off at 3 p.m. The varsity contests follow the Upper Lake vs. Middletown varsity game.
20-21 vision
Kelseyville”s Isaac McQueen has scored 20 and 21 points, respectively, for the Kelseyville Knights in his first two Hoop Classic games.
Schedule bounce
Starting on Friday, the format of JV-varsity-JV-varsity games switches to JV-JV-varsity-varsity as the races for the Hoop Classic titles heat up.
