Therna Daisy Means passed peacefully Dec. 11, 2006, at the age of 75. Therna Daisy was born July 13, 1931 in East London, South Africa to Frederick and Ruby Beswick. She was raised in South Africa in places such as East London, Cape Province and Johannesburg and immigrated to America in 1957 with her husband and two sons.

Therna Daisy was a very independent woman and she blossomed later in life as a widow in Lompoc. She was an extremely talented artist, producing dozens of award winning, vibrant oil paintings and countless sketches. She also won many awards for dolls that she made and she was a published poet.

Therna Daisy was particularly proud of her home. She remodeled her Lompoc condominium to exactly her liking, complete with two incredible indoor murals and a myriad of personal touches. Therna Daisy had a special talent for turning ordinary things into beautiful art, something she attributed to her meager upbringing in South Africa.

Her two sons, Thaxter Bodley (Dawn) of Lakeport and Devin Bodley (Kathy) of Dallas, Ga., will dearly miss Therna Daisy. Treasured grandmother of Jennifer and Wayne Lyon, Christopher and Joy Bodley, Jaclyn Bodley and Franklin L, D.J., Jesse and Timmy Bodley and her 7 great-grandchildren. She will also be missed by her sister Anne Willden of Utah; brother Keith of Washington; sister Erica Ganter of New Zealand. She also leaves behind her very special cat, Shelby.

A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16 at Chapel of the Lakes, 1625 High St. Lakeport.
